Louis B. Meyer, Jr.

Justice Louis B. Meyer, Jr. was born in Marion, North Carolina on July 15, 1933, but was reared in the Halifax County town of Enfield. He attended and graduated from Wake Forest College and served as an officer in the United States Army's Chemical Corps. Following his army service Meyer returned to Wake Forest where he earned a law degree in 1960. Upon passing the bar, Meyer clerked for Justice Hunt Parker on the North Carolina Supreme Court.

After completing his clerkship, Meyer and his family then moved to Wilson and he began his practice with the firm now know as Rose Rand Attorneys, P.A. During Meyer's practice with the firm, he served as city attorney, counsel for ElectriCitites and the North Carolina Municipal Power Agencies. He was president of the Wilson County and Seventh Judicial District Bar Associations and taught as an Adjunct Professor of Business Law at Atlantic Christian College (later renamed Barton College). Meyer served as County Chairman for the Wilson County Democratic Party and as a member of the State Executive Committee.

In 1981, Meyer was appointed by Governor Jim Hunt to the North Carolina Supreme Court and following subsequent reelections Meyer served on the court until 1994. His numerous contributions to the state of North Carolina and the court during this period are outlined in the Supreme Court's website at the link below.

In addition to his legal career, Meyer is remembered for his dedication to his family, as a avid sportsman, a man of faith and a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Wilson.
