Ms. Ellis was born in High Point, North Carolina. She earned a B.S. and a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ms. Ellis received a J.D., cum laude, from Wake Forest University, where she was a member of the Wake Forest Law Review.

Ms. Ellis became a Certified Public Account in Virginia and held positions at Seidman and Seidman of Greensboro, North Carolina as a Staff Accountant and at Hantzmon, Wiebel and Co., of Charlottesville, Virginia as a Senior Tax Accountant. Ms. Ellis is admitted to practice before all North Carolina State Courts.

Ms. Ellis is married and has a son and a daughter.
